Cannes Lions to honour Susan Credle with Lifetime Achievement Award ‘Lion of St Mark’
Mumbai: The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity has announced that it will honour Susan Credle with the Lion of St Mark, the festival’s prestigious lifetime achievement award, recognising her outstanding contribution to the global advertising industry.Credle, currently Interpublic Global Creative Advisor, will receive the honour during the festival scheduled to take place from June 22 to June 26 in Cannes, France. The award celebrates a career spanning more than four decades, which began with an internship at BBDO in New York.[caption id=attachment_2494930 align=alignleft width=200] Simon Cook [/caption]Announcing the honour, Simon Cook, CEO of LIONS, said, “Susan Credle is a trailblazer and a creative force. Association of Indian Magazines welcomes Supreme Court decision on Fact Check Unit case
New Delhi: The Association of Indian Magazines (AIM) has welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court of India to decline a stay on the Bombay High Court judgment that struck down provisions enabling the government’s proposed Fact Check Unit (FCU) under the amended IT Rules.AIM was among the petitioners that challenged the constitutionality of the Fact Check Unit, arguing that the provision could grant the government excessive authority to determine what constitutes “fake”, “false”, or “misleading” information about its own affairs.While issuing notice and indicating that it will examine the matter in greater detail, the Supreme Court’s refusal to stay the judgment of the Bombay High Court means that the Union Government cannot operationalise the proposed Fact Check Unit for the time being. The interim position prevents the implementation of a mechanism that critics argued could have given the government sweeping powers to regulate content concerning its own functioning.Under the amended Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, digital intermediaries could have been required to remove content flagged by the government-designated Fact Check Unit. Failure to comply could have exposed platforms to the loss of safe-harbour protections, raising significant concerns among media organisations and civil society groups about potential executive overreach.Media stakeholders had also expressed concern that the rules allowed the government to unilaterally determine the accuracy of reporting about itself, with broadly defined terms such as “fake”, “false”, and “misleading”. Critics argued that this arrangement effectively placed the government in the position of both complainant and adjudicator in matters relating to scrutiny of its own actions.[caption id=attachment_2487199 align=alignleft width=200] Manoj Sharma [/caption]Commenting on the development, Manoj Sharma, President of the Association of Indian Magazines and CEO, Publishing, India Today Group, said, “The Supreme Court’s decision not to stay the Bombay High Court judgment is an important safeguard for press freedom and democratic debate.” Anant Nath, former president of AIM and editor of The Caravan, further added, “Allowing the government to unilaterally label reporting about its own functioning as ‘fake’ or ‘misleading’ would have created a deeply chilling effect on journalism.” In the proceedings, the Association of Indian Magazines was represented by Senior Advocate Arvind Datar, along with Advocates Apar Gupta and Vrinda Bhandari (AoR) and the Internet Freedom Foundation, who assisted in advancing the constitutional challenge against the rule. Background of the Case The legal challenge emerged after the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Amendment Rules, 2023 introduced a provision enabling the Central Government to establish a Fact Check Unit to identify information relating to the “business of the Central Government” as “fake, false or misleading”.Several petitioners subsequently approached the Bombay High Court, including the Association of Indian Magazines, the Editors Guild of India, stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, and other journalists and civil society stakeholders.The petitioners argued that granting the government the authority to determine the truthfulness of reporting about itself could create a state-controlled truth certification mechanism, potentially undermining the constitutional guarantee of freedom of speech and expression under Article 19(1)(a). Bombay High Court Verdict In a landmark ruling in March 2024, the Bombay High Court struck down the amended IT Rules enabling the Fact Check Unit, holding that the provision violated constitutional protections for free speech.The court observed that the rule imposed arbitrary and disproportionate restrictions on online expression and lacked adequate procedural safeguards. It further noted that permitting the government to label online content about its own affairs as “fake” or “misleading” could have a serious chilling effect on journalism and public discourse. AIM’s Stand on Press Freedom The Association of Indian Magazines reiterated that while addressing misinformation is a legitimate public objective, any framework to combat it must be independent, transparent, and constitutionally sound.Magazine publishers across India, the association said, remain committed to editorial integrity and fact-based journalism, while emphasising the importance of protecting editorial independence from executive overreach.“The magazine industry stands firmly committed to defending constitutional freedoms and ensuring that India’s media ecosystem remains vibrant, plural, and independent,” Sharma added.

யாழ்ப்பாணம் கிட்டு பூங்காவை புனரமைப்பு செய்யும் முகமாக , பூங்காவை துப்புரவு செய்யும் பணிகள் நேற்றைய தினம் செவ்வாய்க்கிழமை முன்னெடுக்கப்பட்டது. விடுதலைப்புலிகளின் யாழ்ப்பாண மாவட்ட இராணுவத் தளபதியான கேணல் கிட்டு என அழைக்கப்படும் சதாசிவம்பிள்ளை கிருஷ்ணகுமார் உள்ளிட்ட புலிகளின் 10 போராளிகள் பயணித்த கப்பலை சர்வதேச கடற்பரப்பினுள் இந்திய கடற்படையினர் வழிமறித்து சரணடைய கோரிய நிலையில் ,16.01.1993 அன்று கப்பலுடன் வெடித்து சிதறி வீரகாவியமானார்கள். வீரகாவியமான கேணல் கிட்டுவின் நினைவாக யாழ்பாணத்தில் முத்திரை சந்தி பகுதியில் 1994ஆம் ஆண்டு ஆகஸ்ட் மாதம் கிட்டு பூங்காதிறந்து வைக்கப்பட்டது. யுத்தம் தீவிரமடைந்து 1995 ஒக்டோபர் 30ஆம் திகதி மக்கள் யாழ்ப்பாணத்தை விட்டு வெளியேறிய பின்னர் , கிட்டு பூங்கா முற்றாக அழிக்கப்பட்டது. அதனை அடுத்து கிட்டு பூங்காபுனரமைக்கப்பட்ட வேண்டும் என பல்வேறு தரப்பினராலும் கோரிக்கைகள் முன் வைக்கப்பட்டு வந்த போதிலும் , 2010ஆம் ஆண்டு கால பகுதியில் கிட்டு பூங்காவை , சங்கிலியன் பூங்கா என பெயர் மாற்றம் செய்து புனரமைக்க முயற்சிகள் முன்னெடுக்கப்பட்ட போதிலும் பின்னர் அவை முழுமை பெறாது கைவிடப்பட்டது. பின்னர் பூங்கா புனரமைப்பு பணிகள் முன்னெடுக்கப்படாத போதிலும் , பூங்கா அமைந்திருந்த பகுதியில் அரசியல் பிரச்சார கூட்டங்கள் , கண்காட்சிகள், கூட்டங்கள் என்பன நடைபெற்று வந்தன. இந்நிலையில் தற்போது கிட்டு பூங்காவை புனரமைக்கும் பணிகளை மாநகர சபை முன்னெடுக்கவுள்ள நிலையில் , முதல்கட்டமாக பூங்காவை சுற்றி சுற்று மதில் கட்டி , அதனை பாதுகாப்பும் நடவடிக்கை முன்னெடுக்கப்படவுள்ளது. அதனை முன்னிட்டே நேற்றைய தினம் யாழ். மாநகர சபை உறுப்பினர்கள் , ஆணையாளர் , உள்ளிட்ட மாநகர சபை அதிகாரிகள் கலந்து கொண்டு துப்பரவு பணிகளை முன்னெடுத்தனர்.

Ravi Mohan Studios drops ‘BroCode’ title after settlement in Delhi High Court
Mumbai: The Delhi High Court has recorded a settlement between IndoSpirit Beverages Private Limited (IndoBevs) and Ravi Mohan Studios Private Limited in a trademark infringement dispute over the use of the mark “BroCode” as the title of an upcoming film.The dispute arose after Ravi Mohan Studios announced a cinematographic project titled “Bro Code.” IndoBevs alleged that the title infringed its registered trademark “BROCODE,” associated with its beverage brand launched in 2016.Earlier in the proceedings, the Delhi High Court had granted an ad-interim injunction on October 14, 2025, restraining the studio from using the mark “BROCODE” or any deceptively similar mark in connection with the film. The restriction covered the film’s trailers, teasers, promotional materials and social media campaigns. While permitting the production of the film to continue, the court observed that using the mark as a film title was prima facie likely to cause confusion and could lead consumers to believe the film was associated with the BROCODE brand.Following the interim order, the parties entered mediation under the aegis of the Delhi High Court Mediation and Conciliation Centre, which resulted in a settlement agreement. As part of the settlement, Ravi Mohan Studios Private Limited agreed to discontinue the use of the title “BROCODE” and remove the name from all promotional materials and digital content related to the film.The studio has also withdrawn proceedings it had previously initiated before the Madras High Court.By an order dated February 17, 2026, the Delhi High Court recorded the settlement and decreed the suit in terms of the agreement, effectively bringing the dispute to a close. The film is now expected to proceed under a new title yet to be announced.

Mumbai: The International Advertising Association (IAA) and Artificial Intelligence Association of India (AIAI), in association with The Free Press Journal, hosted an edition of IAA Conversations featuring Sanjay Pradhan, President of the World Forum for Ethics in Business (WFEB), at Free Press House in Mumbai. The event brought together industry leaders and professionals to discuss the growing need for ethical frameworks in the development and use of artificial intelligence.Addressing a packed audience, Pradhan emphasised that while AI is transforming industries and accelerating innovation, it also raises serious ethical challenges that require collective action from businesses, governments and individuals.[caption id=attachment_2494893 align=alignleft width=318] Sanjay Pradhan [/caption] Dr Pradhan said Artificial intelligence has rapidly become one of the most powerful technologies that humanity has ever created, It is unlocking breakthroughs in medicine, science, and creativity at a pace unimaginable just a few years ago. However, he cautioned that the same technology could create significant risks if not governed responsibly. The same technology that can transform lives can also inflict profound harm. It can turbocharge disinformation faster than truth can travel. It can steal our privacy, deepen injustice, and rob hundreds of millions of people of their livelihoods, he said, citing concerns raised by AI pioneers including Geoffrey Hinton.Highlighting the urgency of ethical oversight, Pradhan added, The question is no longer whether AI will shape our world. It already has shaped our world. The real question is whether we will shape AI with ethics, humanity, and wisdom. The session outlined WFEB’s emerging AI Ethics Partnership, a global initiative aimed at promoting responsible AI development. Pradhan structured his address around four guiding questions — why, what, how and who — and identified disinformation, bias and discrimination, data privacy, and job security as the four major challenges that must be addressed.Using a metaphor, he described ethical AI as a three-layered cake: the outer layer representing visible social and business outcomes, the middle layer representing organisational culture moving from ethical codes to ethical practices, and the innermost layer representing the conscience of individual leaders.Drawing from Indian philosophical thought and referencing WFEB co-founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Pradhan quoted, Artificial intelligence can only reproduce what is stored. Absolute intelligence is boundless. Absolute intelligence is the all-pervading wellspring of conscience, creativity, and compassion. He argued that practices such as breathwork and meditation can help leaders develop the clarity and calm necessary for ethical decision-making. Encouraging organisations to prioritise responsible AI practices, Pradhan urged stakeholders to collectively support companies that demonstrate ethical leadership. Let us rise in a magnificent murmuration of conscience, he said, o ensure that artificial intelligence is guided by absolute intelligence, that technology reflects our deepest human values and not merely the cold logic of algorithms. The discussion also featured industry leaders including Maninder Adityaraj Singh, Chief of Staff and Head of Innovation at Rediffusion Brand Solutions, and Yash Johri, lawyer at the Supreme Court of India. The event opened with remarks by Abhishek Karnani, President of the IAA India Chapter.Commenting on the initiative, Dr Sandeep Goyal, Managing Director of Rediffusion and National Convenor of AIAI, said, “AI has to be befriended and understood. Its ethical use and application will determine whether it will become a friend or foe. Dr. Pradhan's lecture covered vast ground, focused on many dilemmas and enumerated many examples. AIAI treated this as a pre-launch event and we are happy we partnered with IAA on this”. Social Media Tops Fraud Channels With 50% Cases but Remains Least Trusted by Users: Report
Brussels: A new study commissioned by Proximus Global has highlighted the growing threat that digital fraud and AI-generated scams pose to brand trust, revealing that consumers are increasingly wary of online communications from companies.The research, conducted by Forrester Consulting, part of Forrester Research, surveyed 1,673 digital users aged 18–64 globally for the report titled “Rebuilding Trust in a High Fraud Digital World.” The findings indicate that digital channels used by brands to interact with consumers are becoming increasingly vulnerable to sophisticated fraud attempts driven by artificial intelligence.According to the report, one in five consumers now faces fraud attempts every week, while 85% of digital users say they would stop engaging with a brand after experiencing fraud associated with it. The study underscores how fraud has moved beyond a reputational risk to become a serious threat to brand loyalty and long-term customer relationships.Social media has emerged as the primary channel for digital deception, accounting for 50% of reported fraud cases. At the same time, it ranks among the least trusted digital platforms, with only 19% of respondents expressing confidence in the channel.The research also highlights growing anxiety around AI-generated content. Nearly 63% of users said they do not trust AI-generated output, while 75% believe that AI in the wrong hands could accelerate fraud and misuse across digital platforms.For consumers who have experienced fraud connected to a brand, trust appears difficult to rebuild. The study found that only 15% of fraud victims continue to engage with or purchase from a brand after such incidents. Even after resolution efforts, the damage often persists, with 57% of victims requesting refunds and 43% warning friends and family about the brand.Commenting on the findings, Seckin Arikan, CEO, Proximus Global, said: “Brand loyalty today is extremely fragile. A single fraud incident can irreversibly damage trust overnight, with most victims ready to walk away from a brand immediately after. Enterprises must treat security and authentic engagement as their most aggressive growth strategy. Trust is the driver of platform adoption, evoking positive user sentiments that translate into higher advocacy, recommendations, and continued engagement.” The report suggests that as AI-powered fraud becomes more widespread, companies will need to prioritise stronger digital security, verification systems and transparent communication strategies to protect consumer trust and safeguard their brand reputation in an increasingly complex digital environment.
