மியன்மாரில் நேற்று (03) 6 ரிக்டர் அளவிலான சக்திவாய்ந்த நில அதிர்வு ஏற்பட்டுள்ளதாக தெரிவிக்கபட்டுள்ளது. இந்த நில அதிர்வானது பூமியின் உட்புறத்தில் 10 கிலோமீட்டர் ஆழத்தில் ஏற்பட்டதாகக் குறிப்பிட்டுள்ளது. மியன்மாரில் ஏற்பட்ட இந்த நில அதிர்வினால் இந்தியாவின் கிழக்குப் பகுதிகளில் பலத்த அதிர்வுகள் உணரப்பட்டதாக இந்திய ஊடகங்கள் செய்தி வெளியிட்டுள்ளன. குறிப்பாக கொல்கத்தா உள்ளிட்ட சில பகுதிகளில் இந்த அதிர்வுகள் உணரப்பட்டுள்ளன. இந்த நில அதிர்வினால் ஏற்பட்ட பாதிப்புகள் குறித்த தகவல்கள் இதுவரை வெளியாகவில்லை.

தமிழ்நாட்டில் உள்ள பல்கலைக்கழகங்களுக்கு துணைவேந்தர்களை நியமிக்கும் அதிகாரத்தை முதலமைச்சருக்கு வழங்கி தமிழ்நாடு அரசு சட்டத்தை நிறைவேற்றி இருந்தது. இந்தச் சட்டத்திற்கு சென்னை உயர் நீதிமன்றம் தடை விதித்திருந்த நிலையில், இந்த தடையை நீக்கி தற்போது உச்ச நீதிமன்றம் தீர்ப்பளித்திருக்கிறது. தமிழகத்தில் உள்ள பல்கலைக்கழகங்களுக்கான துணைவேந்தரை மாநில முதல்வரே நியமிக்கும் வகையில் சட்டத்திருத்தம் செய்த தமிழக அரசு, அதனை ஒப்புதலுக்காக ஆளுநர் ஆர்.என்.ரவிக்கு கடந்த சில மாதங்களுக்கு முன்பு அனுப்பியிருந்தது. மு. க ஸ்டாலின் இந்தச் சட்டத்திருத்தம் உட்பட பல்வேறு மசோதாக்கள் ஆளுநர் மாளிகையில் நீண்ட காலமாக கிடப்பில் இருந்தன. இதை எதிர்த்து தமிழக அரசு உச்ச நீதிமன்றத்தில் வழக்கு தொடர்ந்திருந்தது. இந்த வழக்கை விசாரித்த உச்ச நீதிமன்றம், தனது சிறப்பு அதிகாரத்தைப் பயன்படுத்தி, 10 மசோதாக்களுக்கு அனுமதி வழங்கியது. அந்த 10 மசோதாக்களில் பல்கலைக்கழகங்களுக்கு துணைவேந்தரை மாநில முதல்வரே நியமிக்கலாம் என்ற சட்டத்திருத்தமும் அடங்கும். இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து மாநில முதல்வரே துணைவேந்தர்களை நியமிப்பதை எதிர்த்து உயர் நீதிமன்ற மதுரைக் கிளையில் வழக்கு தொடரப்பட்டது. அதனை விசாரித்த நீதிமன்றம் இந்தச் சட்டத்திருத்தத்துக்கு இடைக்கால தடை விதித்து உத்தரவிட்டது. இதனை எதிர்த்து தமிழக அரசு சார்பில் உச்ச நீதிமன்றத்தில் மனுத்தாக்கல் செய்யப்பட்டது. சென்னை உயர் நீதிமன்றம் வழக்கை முழுமையாக விசாரிக்காமல் அவசரக்கோலத்தில் இடைக்கால தடை விதித்துள்ளதாகத் தமிழக அரசு சார்பில் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டது. ஆளுநர் ரவி இந்நிலையில் இந்த வழக்கில் இன்று ( பிப்.4) தீர்ப்பு வழங்கிய உச்ச நீதிமன்றம், துணைவேந்தர் நியமனம் தொடர்பாக உயர் நீதிமன்றம் பிறப்பித்த இடைக்காலத் தடையை நீக்கி இருக்கிறது. தடையை நீக்கிய உச்ச நீதிமன்ற நீதிபதிகள், இந்த வழக்கை மீண்டும் விசாரிக்க சென்னை உயர் நீதிமன்றத்துக்கு உத்தரவிட்டனர். ஆறு வாரங்களில் வழக்கை விசாரித்து முடிக்கவும், அதுவரை புதிய துணைவேந்தர்களை நியமிக்கக் கூடாது என்றும் உச்ச நீதிமன்றம் உத்தரவிட்டிருக்கிறது.

Mumbai: As India transitions from policy formulation to on-ground implementation of the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, a new report by EY India highlights growing awareness but uneven readiness among enterprises. The report, India’s digital privacy crossroads: Understanding the DPDP Act’s impact and enterprise readiness, finds that while momentum toward compliance is building, significant gaps remain in interpretation, governance, and execution across sectors.According to the survey, nearly 71% of respondents report limited understanding of the DPDP Act and its Rules, indicating that knowledge gaps persist not only at operational levels but also within leadership teams. While awareness of data privacy obligations is increasing, the depth of understanding and maturity of implementation varies widely across industries.Sector-wise analysis shows that consumer, retail and e-commerce companies are leading the compliance journey, with 50% of respondents stating that they have initiated DPDP-related efforts. This is followed by technology services at 38.8% and financial services at 34.7%. Progress remains slower in metals, mining and energy, where only 20% of organizations have begun their DPDP journey, while healthcare and life sciences lag significantly, with just 9.9% reporting initial steps.Functionally, awareness is highest within legal, risk, cybersecurity and technology teams, while business operations, HR, finance and manufacturing functions show considerably lower levels of understanding, despite routinely handling personal data. This disparity underscores the need for enterprise-wide privacy education and shared ownership of DPDP compliance.From an implementation standpoint, 48% of organizations have conducted gap assessments, making it the most common entry point into compliance. However, only 44% have started documenting data processing procedures, around 38% have begun personal data categorization, and a similar proportion have identified third-party vendors handling personal data. Alarmingly, nearly 80% of organizations have not updated or drafted DPDP-aligned privacy policies or governance frameworks, and over 83% have yet to initiate end-to-end implementation across systems and processes.Commenting on the findings, Murali Rao, Partner and Leader, Cybersecurity Consulting, EY India, said, “The DPDP Act has moved decisively from interpretation to execution. Our survey clearly shows that while organizations recognize the importance of data privacy, many are still early in their operational journey. The next phase will require enterprises to go beyond assessments and embed privacy into governance, systems and culture. Those that treat DPDP compliance as a structural transformation rather than a regulatory checkbox will be far better positioned to build trust, resilience and long-term competitive advantage.” The report also outlines key challenges likely to impede DPDP implementation. Nearly 77% of respondents cite difficulty in adopting privacy technologies, such as consent management and data rights fulfillment, within legacy environments. 76.4% point to limited access to subject-matter expertise, while 71% continue to struggle with interpreting the Act itself. Additionally, 58.8% highlight complexities around cross-border data transfers, and 45.3% flag budgetary constraints.With the DPDP Rules now notified and the compliance window extending until May 2027, the report stresses that privacy is rapidly evolving from a regulatory requirement into a strategic business imperative. Enterprises that proactively modernize data governance, strengthen consent and rights-management frameworks, and embed privacy-by-design across operations will not only meet regulatory expectations but also contribute to building a more trusted and resilient digital economy in India.

The campaign is being launched in partnership with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) and the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), and features veteran actor Neena Gupta alongside leading digital creators to promote safer online behaviour.Designed to address the rising incidence of digital fraud, the campaign highlights some of the most common scam formats, including fake job offers demanding upfront payments, “digital arrest” scams involving impersonation of law enforcement officials, and fraudulent investment schemes promising unrealistic or guaranteed returns. The awareness film uses a light-hearted yet cautionary narrative style, showing how scammers often disguise threats as urgency, authority, or opportunity.The campaign film stars Neena Gupta along with popular creators Sukriti Chaturvedi, Yuvraj Dua, and Shreyas Mendiratta. Drawing from real-life scenarios and everyday conversations, the film breaks down how scammers build false trust and pressure victims into quick decisions. Viewers are encouraged to pause, verify information, and make use of in-app safety features and reporting tools. “Emphasising the need to drive scam awareness in partnership with Meta, Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Chairman, Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), said, “Financial scams are increasingly using digital platforms to mislead individuals through false claims of legitimacy and unrealistic return promises. Citizens must remain vigilant and ensure they engage only with SEBI-registered entities before making any financial investment decisions.
